For those of you who are having trouble choosing a race, or perhaps wish to learn more about them, here is a short guide on each race.(for more info, keep checking the archives for stories on the different races)
Humans- Perhaps the most diverse race in Vaenon, the humans have been known for a variety of things, some bad, some good. No individual is the same, there is seemingly no similarity between each human besides their genetic makeup. Some are honorable, some are selfish. There are various classes of humans, ranging from the common peasant to the powerful knight. Some humans are even able to cast spells. Unfortunately, their population was seriously decimated during the time of war, so they have been confined to only a few cities in Vaenon. The human race is quite adept at progress, coming up with new ideas, inventions, fashions, etc, every day, and so they are the most 'modern' of the known races.
Dragoons- Long ago, there existed in Vaenon(or as it was once called The World) legendary creatures of great power and wisdom. These creatures were known most commonly as dragons. Over the eons, they became extinct. However, some dragons managed to seal their souls into magical gemstones. These gems were entrusted by a warrior race known as the dragoon. With these gems, the dragoons were given the powers of the dragons that were imbued into the stones. The dragon spirits entrusts its power in only the dragoon it has bonded with, so even if the gem were to end up in the wrong hands, it would most likely be only seen as a common gemstone(most dragoons have the stone magically fused into their bodies when they first create their bond between their dragon spirit). When a dragoon dies, the dragon often chooses another warrior to bond with. The powers a dragon can give range from control over a specific element to the ability to fly. All dragoons have a telepathic connection to their dragon spirits, allowing them to provide an extra source of wisdom when it may be needed.
Griffon Riders- A legendary creature which still manages to exist even to this day is the griffon. Half Lion, half eagle, this magnificent animal is known for its intelligence and incredible strength. Its claws and beak can tear through armies, making it a fiersome foe in battle. For many years, a race known only as the griffon riders have existed, forming a lifelong bond with these beasts of legend. It is usually quite hard to gain a griffon's trust, those that are lucky to do so form an unbreakable bond, the griffon even allowing the rider to mount them and take to the skies. Together, a griffon and its rider prove to be a force to be reckoned with. A griffon rider also has a telepathic link between themself and their griffon partner.
Shinobi- For many years, no other race knew of the shinobi's existance. Only after conquering new territory did they finally start to appear in the historybooks. Almost every shinobi is a natural born warrior. They are trained in various martial arts, and most of their early life revolves around training and tradition. What makes the shinobi so powerful is their ability to wield powerful magics known as jutsus. There is very little known about these magics, each individual seems to possess different types and strengths of jutsus, making the shinobi race one of the more powerful known races in Vaenon. One of their few weaknesses is that they are extremely bound to tradition, very few ever venture forth from their hidden villages and those that do are often exiles, disliked by their fellow shinobis and unable to return to what was once their homeland without retrobution.
Samurai- This race of honorable sword-wielders once was as abundant as the other races. However, almost twenty years before the major wars occurred, the shinobi began to expand their territory. Unfortunately, their sights were on the land which the samurai occupied. Althought they fought bravely, they lost heavily to the shinobi, and thus the race became nearly extinct. The few survivors, now homeless, wandered Vaenon, becoming absorbed into the cultures of the different races. During the human-shinobi war, a few became mercenaries allying with the humans. It was because of this fact that they were included on the land divisions. Now with land to call their own, they were able to finally settle and start anew. The samurai are incredibly skilled with whatever blade is put into their hands. What most are famous for is mastery over the katana, a sword which they created. Some samurai have been blessed with superhuman speed and a few have been known to channel elements through their swords, though it differs between each individual.
Anthromorphs- In the wilderness of Vaenon, a race existed which came to be known as the anthromorphs. These beings are often humanoid in appearance, with a few animal characteristics such as a tail or large ears. Anthromorphs are almost as diverse as the human race, beings ranging from catpeople to humanoid unicorns. Often times, an anthromorph has several forms it can 'shift' into, including its animal counterpart. Also, most anthromorphs have heightened senses, especially sight and smell. Their agility is nearly unmatched(especially for the feline species). During the wars, the anthromorphs remained relatively neutral. Thus, today they are one of the most abundant races in Vaenon. Only due to the fact that they lost a good portion of their homeland during the chaos of the wars were they allowed to claim a new territory for their kind.
(well thats it. If youve got a question about the races, feel free to pm me, Ill do my best to answer you!)
