The only daughter of Joliet and Viggo Varkatzas and sole sister to 3 brothers, Taylan Rose Varkatzas was a simple human child with the common story: helpful daughter, wanting to play with boys, dreams of being someone important, and wishing to be just like daddy. Lethal warrior Viggo – better remembered as Valhalla for his trademark of being victor in all his battles and amateur priest as he’d always give a prayer to those that died by his sword – had been his little girl’s role model; a great father and loving husband and a name that would live for years to come.
They were a happy family, troubles rather few for their household. Always trailing behind her brothers when Mommy was finished with making her learn how to sew and cook, Taylan adventured off and sparred with the boys. Even at a young age, the little sprite was considered a minor threat with the sword – even if it was made of wood. She learned to defend herself, no matter the numbers of brothers she had to protect her, and found herself to love the art of the sword with a passion. As she grew, the ever wild child became balanced with being a housewife and a warrior.
Neither loving parent denied her from her ardor, rather supported her. Daddy would help her tone the skills and Mommy made sure to keep the little lady as graceful of a woman as possible. It came to the point where she was passing her own brothers with excellence with the simple minor setback that no one would praise her with that. Taylan was always good but never great or amazing. If she continued to train, she’d never have time for the real battles – which would be the ironic demise of the family.
Her brothers (Viktor, Theo and Giovanni) had obvious plans to become part of the army and they were accepted, of course. Despite her amazing abilities, Taylan was disregarded – even at the time of the March World Tournament incident when help was desperately needed. Maybe that little bit of help would have saved one of her brothers and her father from their deaths…
The last of the Varkatzas family were but two women; Joliet and Taylan. Life was quite difficult after that and in an attempt to move on, they traveled to the mountains. It would be months after they settled down in a little cottage, that Joliet would lose her sight and consumed by depression, she died as well.
The sole survivor of the Varkatzas bloodline was a simple teenager, whose own mind was set on ending her life. She was hell bent on taking her life, the moment she’d finished burying her mother near the waterfall, Taylan would end the torture and meet with her family in the afterlife.
But something held her back and in the end, Taylan continued to live dead in the world. Some time later, after refusing to never wield a single weapon again, Taylan found herself practicing the art day in and day out. It would be on one of those days where a severely wounded warrior stumbled onto her path, death breathing down his neck. Taylan, though, brought him back to the light, mending his wounds and tending to him. When the resting man would sleep, she’d practice – unbeknownst to her that he’d watch her.
And with all the care in the world that the young woman had given him, the warrior had died due to a weak heart. Yet before he left this plane, he told her what no one else would: that she would make an excellent and rare warrior. As his last words (or rather soliloquy) the man revealed the truth to her, of his ethnicity as a dragoon and his last wish for her to accept the gift – that would no doubt, be given whether she accepted or not. More than a little confused and compassionate, Taylan agreed to whatever demands, never in her right mind imagining that she’d be the guardian of an exceptionally powerful dragon.
What happened next was the turning point in Taylan’s life. The dragon stone inside the warrior’s body magically fused to her, Atreyu – an Amelix Sky Dragon – intertwined with her soul. A wise yet lively creature, Atreyu comforted the panicked girl, explaining to her why she was chosen and what would happen and had happened. From then on….
Things changed for the better and dark times weren’t whispering suicidal ideas to Taylan. Atreyu cared for her as she blossomed into a deadly warrior and a beautiful woman at the same time. To this day, Taylan travels to help fight for whatever causes that will better this world and the next.
*there seems to be a connection between Atreyu and her father...a past of some sort that her father never told her of and Atreyu won’t speak of.

P E R S O N A L I T Y:
As she becomes acknowledged as a turn of the century dragoon, Taylan finds herself being written down as a slightly twisted beauty whose insides…don’t match the outside. For Taylan is known to be quite the opposite of her father on the battlefield. She has a darkly tinted temper and when unleashed, it’s not anger that pours out but madness. Atreyu at times can’t reach her and most often than not, he restores her to calm too late. She’s known to be sardonic and slightly sadistic when her mind is troubled. There have been times where the dark side has been ever so tempting but the light always keeps her safe. When she’s not being a riddle incarnate, Taylan is ever sweet and kind, extremely friendly and quite the comedian. She’s modest and doesn’t boast nor look down on other races. She’s intricate in the least; sometimes introspective, others outgoing. Yet when one’s family has died one after the other, doesn’t one lose a part of one’s self?
A P P E A R A N C E:
A simple slender figure standing at 5’3” (short for a warrior) with fair skin, long cascading dark locks that fall to her waist, and light eyes that shine when delighted and grow dark when angered. She is often dressed in robes, her visage hidden by a hood where her pants and thin shirt are under the dark clothes and her hair is usually loosely confined as a braid thrown over her shoulder. When she isn’t in that attire, Taylan dons traveling pants, her sword holstered by a belt at her hips and a tight dark vest as a top, boots covering her feet.
S P E C I A L T Y:
When she’s not slicing limbs off or breathing glass-melting fires into someone’s face, Taylan sings. Blessed with her mother’s musical talent, she sings and plays the lute, though nothing delights her more than drums. She’ll break into song at any given time and if you ever need something sewn, she’s quite the seamstress.
D R A G O N – A B I L I T I E S:
With the dragon stone embedded in her, Taylan has the power to control fire. Atreyu being an Amelix Sky Dragon (his race was a rare powerhouse that sadly became the first to start decreasing dramatically in numbers) that lived in the skies and were considered the symbol of destruction for their deadly dominations over the fire element, gives these magical traits to Taylan. She, though, has quite the trouble keeping fire under control.
Almost effortlessly, Taylan can tap into a median state where she bears dragon wings, a intermediate state where she is covered in dragon scales and slightly resembles a dragon with her eyes and face morphed. And the deepest state that she has only once tapped into is what she calls the True Dragon State – where she truly transforms into a full dragon (length and all). In this state, it is as though Atreyu and her trade places. Only when Taylan is deeply overwhelmed does she trigger this state where she is not in control NOR Atreyu because it is the state that only raging dragons understand. Controlled by anger and wrath, the True Dragon state is meant to protect the dragoon and…kills all those who endanger it. It’s the strongest state any Dragoon can be in yet the weakest – for if at this state, the dragon is killed, the dragoon and the dragon inside (in this case, Atreyu) die as well.
Thankfully, this is the hardest state to go in and is rarely achieved.
W E A K N ES S E S/S T R E N G T H S:
• S T R O N G – P O I N T S:
Physically, she is lethal with a blade as well with a bow and arrow. She’s quite acrobatic and strong despite her physique. Taylan is very strong-willed and when she is determined to do something, she will go through it no matter what. She often acts without thinking but that is because she acts with her heart and –thankfully – she survives through whatever’s thrown at her.
• W E A K – P O I N T S:
Having suffered such emotional disasters, Taylan is mentally...unstable. Her emotions get the best of her and when those emotions are anger, rage or torment, things get pretty ugly, for her as well. She can be easily depressed and taken advantage of for her very open way of life – she trusts very easily, and surprisingly hasn’t learned her lesson no matter how many times she gets betrayed.
*For warriors – Taylan’s Achilles’ Heel is the left side of her neck.
