Full Name: Victor Marko Kane II
Nicknames: “The Trapper”, gained from his affinity for setting elaborate traps
Bloodline: Son of Alexander Kane, Knight, son of Victor Kane, Blacksmith
Gender: Male
Species/Class: Human
Occupation: Personal arms instructor, Kingdom of Rahn’s Marketplace.
Age: 49
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 284lbs
Appearance: Standing well above the average height, though not toweringly so, coupled with his muscular rock-solid build, perpetual frown, and his war-torn body make Victor stand out rather well among the normal human populace, as well as being somewhat intimidating. Then he puts on his armor. He was more often than not seen within his distinctive custom-forged suit of plate during his time in the army, which tended to give him a slightly more pale color than most, though it usually sits in a closet now, gathering dust. He is still almost always armed, though his armament has changed from his two weapons of choice (which now hang above his fireplace) to a long-sword worn across his back. Even after many years of hard-living, he has still managed to come out looking nearly a decade younger than he actually is. He has blonde hair, which he wears out to his shoulders, pale gray eyes, and very square features. Though he has somehow managed to not acquire any particularly noticeable facial scars, past a few small ones, he has three major scars below his shoulders; one just above the right knee, on the outer side of the leg, about two inches in length, and all the way through the leg. The second is a half-inch deep scar that begins just below the right shoulder-blade and ends at the small of the back, just to the right of the spine. The third is from an armor-piercing (or “bullet-tipped”) arrow in the middle of the upper trapezius (the muscle between your shoulder and neck that runs down a third of the back), with the entrance being just above the clavicle, and the “exit” wound being at roughly a thirty degree angle downwards, leaving it just between the shoulder-blade and the spine.
Attire: When unarmored, he is more often than not seen wearing peasants clothing of varying color and styles, though he is rarely without one of his personal weapons and a plain gold ring on the left ring-finger. His armor, the Twin Lion-head armor, is somewhat bulky, enabling it to take particularly harsh beatings, though due to its design, allows much more movement for the user than one would think possible from looking at it (for example, the pauldrons are very large and look attached to the breastplate very solidly, though in fact they are fairly mobile). The armor itself was passed down to him from his father (after being refitted), who in turn received it from his, and holds much sentimental value, bearing the so-called “motto” of the Kane bloodline. The pauldrons each bear a lion’s head, hence the name, which represent Strength and Courage, the first two pieces; the loincloth bears the third and final piece, a blue cross, which represents Honor.
Personality: Victor is generally very patient, always thinking things through as much as possible, and planning ahead as far as possible, though he always expects the plans to go awry, and therefore has developed the ability to think on his feet rather well. Though his trust and respect can be a bit difficult to gain, he can be quite loyal once it has. He will always listen to someone’s council, though he will always do what he deems best in the end, leading him to often appear as insubordinate. He can be somewhat cold-hearted at times, and will do things that most would tend to shy away from due to moral boundaries unflinchingly when the time calls for it. He will very rarely tell of his troubles, unless specifically asked, or display the full extent of his emotions about his past experiences, even to this day.
Weapons: (For use when armored/preferred) A six and a half foot tall, steel shafted and headed, war-hammer (not one of the mallet-headed behemoths, mind you, but closer to the Lucerne hammer’s style, albeit a slightly larger head; his also sports a spike at the bottom of the shaft). The hammer his worn strapped across the back of the armor and wielded either in both hands or his off (left) hand simultaneously with another weapon.
(For use when armored/preferred) A steel shafted and headed long-handled, one-handed flanged mace. The mace is worn on the right hip, stuck through a leather loop, and wielded in the right hand. (Either of these two can be constituted as his “primary”, it just depends on the situation)
(For use when unarmored) A 38 inch steel long-sword, typically worn strapped over the back.
Strengths: As you might guess, he is strong as an ox, capable of wielding a full-length war-hammer effectively with his off hand, and has an indomitable will to match, along with an equal amount of courage. He is very well versed in personal combat, being incredibly effective in mass combat, and he is a formidable tactician, capable of making split-second decisions, though his true strengths as a commander lay in his ability to inspire bravery among his men, demoralize the enemy, and lay elaborate traps. He will do virtually anything for the men under him and his home, and so can gain strong bonds. He is very patient, though bad commanders have gained full-scale verbal assaults, and, one rare occasions, violent reactions, and very rarely rushes into things without fore-thought, with the exception of necessity, and even in those times, he tries to think on the move as much as possible.
Weaknesses: Though he possesses much skill, due to his size and preference for heavy armor, he is less effective against one well-trained individual than he is against, say, ten moderately-trained individuals. Though a strength as well, his loyalty to his friends, family, and home and not towards his superiors often puts him at odds with authority, and has earned him a reputation as being insubordinate. He will, however, never do this without good reason (i.e. if he were to be given an order that he believes would be more detrimental to his home [or his men, if not fighting for his home], he will employ a strategy of his own). This is one of the reasons that anyone under tend to quickly form a strong loyalty to him, and that most people in power tend to dislike him even faster.
History:
Victor Marko Kane the Second, born the middle-child out of three; an elder sister and a younger brother, to Alexander Kane, a Knight, and Moesal Nimmen, a seamstress. Early on, Livayen took up her mother’s career, and worked along-side her in her shop in Brightvale. Victor followed his father’s footsteps and became a soldier in Brightvale. Maxamillion became Victor Kane the First’s apprentice at his shop in Polaris, and took over fully after he died several years later. Though Victor quickly became proficient as a troop leader, his behavior to the chain of command evened it out, and where a normal man with his skill would’ve risen quickly in the ranks, he remained a foot-soldier support troop Commander at most, though every now and then he’d be temporarily demoted to a support troop aid after a specific act. This continued on for several years of being transferred back and forth between posts (and subsequently disapproving commanders). Due to his abilities, however, he was never formally punished, as long as he didn’t do anything too “drastic”, as they put it.
At twenty-seven, during a routine city-guard assignment, he met his future wife, Namara Senci. Within two months, the two were married, though true to life, he was reassigned the next week. Namara, however, simply followed him. In fact, she followed him to the town nearest to his current assignment every time he received a new one for the next several years. The two endured his military “shoveling under the carpet” together, much to the chagrin of his father, who at times actually found the situation amusing, primarily because it proved what he believed, that the military was as political as any form of government, and that it would always be the high-born suck-ups that got ahead, while average grunts who did what was best tended to get shoved down.
By his mid-thirties, he was the guy who got the worst backwater posts available, the dangerous posts that nobody ever heard of, and the downright bleak assignments, all for longer periods than was typical. He was generally given command of the worst troops available, though they were quickly replaced after he sharpened them into something worth acknowledgement. At forty-one, however, that all changed. During yet another assignment in the middle of nowhere, under the command of a particularly greedy and cruel captain who was running the outpost, and made use of the soldiers for his own personal amusement, roughly half of his men decided to leave the military. Without asking. The captain promptly ordered Victor to take his remaining soldiers and bring each and every one of them back to face proper punishment, which, as was his duty, he did (or mostly, anyways, some disappeared entirely). It was then that the captain ordered those found to be executed then and there. Knowing full well what the men stationed at the outpost had been subjected to before and after his arrival by questioning his men, he flat out refused. The captain of course simply found someone else to do it, and promptly made an incredibly inaccurate, yet believable, report on what happened, the contents of which were successful in finally getting Victor ousted from military life due to “incompetent behavior unbefitting of an officer”. He quickly took up giving out combat lessons in the back of his brother’s shop.
Three years later, the tyrant Diedriel happened. Like countless others, Alexander was one of the casualties, and shortly thereafter, Namara followed him. Victor, however, still refused to return to attempt a return to service, even after a position was offered him. He vowed that he would never again defend the government that had failed him, instead only protecting the people around him when the time arose. Like he expected, Diedriel was eventually toppled, and life returned to a semblance of normalcy. As his brother put it, “he grieved, and then he moved on as best as any man could”. Always expecting it to get worse, however, he was soon proven correct with the shinobi-human war, where he again refused to try and re-enter service, even after the destruction of Brightvale, which proved the death of both his mother and his sister. Again, life returned to a semblance of normalcy after awhile, the war with the shinobi ended, and the remainder of the Kane bloodline set up shop at their new location, Maxamillion and Ferthis running the smithy, Victor continuing his lessons, and Soryn continuing her parental education, as well as usually taking daily lessons from her uncle, “keeping the old man sharp”, as Ferthis put it.
Family:
Alexander and Moesal Kane (maiden Nimmen), parents, deceased.
Maxamillion Kane, brother, 41, blacksmith in the Kingdom of Rahn’s Marketplace.
Livayen Kane, sister, deceased.
Namara Kane (maiden Senci), wife, deceased.
Victor Kane and Triss Kane, grandparents, deceased.
Vorris and Selene Nimmen, grandparents-in-law, deceased.
Ferthis Kane, sister-in-law, 38, married to Maxamillion.
Soryn Kane, 17, niece, daughter of Ferthis and Maxamillion.
Other: Due to having spent a large amount of time in the company of his brother at his smithy, he has a fair knowledge in the art of smithing.
((Eh, feel free to point out any flaws, this was made at a time where full consciousness was denied. I’ll do my best to fix anything that needs it.))
